The first gameplay footage of the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake on PlayStation 4 was revealed during Sony’s PlayStation Experience conference in San Francisco, California.
The trailer from Square Enix shows characters like Cloud Strife and Barret with their voice acting in the new remake for the first time. A few of the game’s areas and environments, new gameplay and battle system are also revealed.
The Remake’s combat appears to be more action-RPG oriented rather than the turn-based gameplay in the original release.
A release date for the game wasn’t announced. The trailer ends with “Play it first on PlayStation 4,” meaning Final Fantasy VII Remake will release first on Sony’s console before possibly appearing on other platforms.
The Final Fantasy VII remake was first announced at Sony’s E3 conference in June after years of speculation and fan demand. The game was revealed with a teaser trailer showing its updated visuals.
The original Final Fantasy VII is also available to download on the PS4 today for $15.99, with a temporary 32 percent discount through Dec. 12. This is a port of the PC version that includes Trophy support. It also comes with a custom home menu theme.
Final Fantasy VII first released in January 1997 for the original PlayStation and is considered one of the most popular and iconic role-playing games of all-time.
