The Wang is back for a sequel.
Shadow Warrior 2 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2016, its publisher Devolver Digital announced on Thursday.
Lo Wang returns in the first-person shooter to fight demons again five years after the events in Shadow Warrior. While Wang thought he saved the day, a hybrid world was created that’s even worse than before, where humans and demons exist in the same dimension. Wang becomes a recluse, working for Yakuza clans as a hired mercenary. After one mission goes bad, the ninja is put in a war between a scientist and a cult leader that involves a new drug called Shade.
Shadow Warrior 2 adds four player online co-op to the campaign. The first game was single-player only.
The game has a new design feature with procedurally-generated areas, creating random environments. Lo Wang will also have new blades and guns for more than 70 weapons. The first game primarily used a katana for melee combat. Weapons can be forged with elemental effects in a new upgrade system. Different customizable armor and magical powers can give Wang new advantages in combat.
The sequel is in development from Flying Wild Hog, a studio based in Warsaw, Poland who made the first game.
Shadow Warrior released for the PC in September 2013 and on the PS4 and Xbox One in October 2014. The game was a remake of the 1997 original developed by 3D Realms for the PC. The game is currently discounted during Steam’s Summer Sale for $5.99 and $9.99 on the PlayStation Store.
More of Shadow Warrior 2 will be shown on June 15 and during E3 next week.
