Games on Demand Release of Deathsmiles 2X Only Available in US
Not all of North America can enjoy the mayhem and frenzy of Deathsmiles 2X.
Deathsmiles 2X released Tuesday through the Xbox 360’s Games on Demand service. The game saw a Japanese retail release last year, but was not physically ported to the U.S. While Deathsmiles 2X was supposed to be digitally released in all of North America, only U.S. players can buy it from Games on Demand.
Currently 2X isn’t available in Canada or Mexico. Players in those regions cannot download the shmup from their respective Marketplace.
Makoto Asada, producer for Cave, said:
Unfortunately, although I announced that Deathsmiles IIX would be available for North America, the game is only available on US Xbox Live. We currently cannot say whether the game will be available in Mexico or Canada. I apologize for the confusion.
According to Siliconera, Cave stated Wednesday that it’s working with Microsoft on the problem. No reason was given why 2X is only available in the United States.
However, there have been several reports that the game can be bought and played outside of the United States as long as its downloaded from a U.S. Xbox Live account to a NTSC-J (Japanese) or NTSC-U (American) system.
Deathsmiles 2X is the first import on Games on Demand. It’s also the first game to see its release exclusively through the service. It costs $29.99, or 2,400 Microsoft Points. The game’s download size is 1.19 GB.
