Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection on PSN & XBLA This Summer
The Mortal Kombat franchise returns to its roots this summer.
Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection features the arcade versions of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Developed by Other Ocean and NetherRealm Studios, Arcade Kollection will be available as a download for $9.99 on the PlayStation Network Store and 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live Arcade. It will also be available for the PC.
Arcade Kollection will release sometime in late summer. An official release date hasn’t been set.
Described as an “arcade-perfect port,” the games feature new additions like online battles, trophies/achievements, and leaderboards.
Ed Boon, Creative Director of NetherRealm Studios, said in the game’s press release, “with the release of our 2011 Mortal Kombat, and its return to 2D game play, players have been asking for these classic titles and we are happy to deliver them.”
The Arcade Kollection is the first time all three classic Mortal Kombat arcade games will be available on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Mortal Kombat 2 is only available on PSN but lacks trophies. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was only available on XBLA, but was removed in February 2010 due to issues with the game’s publishing rights. The original Mortal Kombat was never available as a download on either service.
To go along with these retro games, GameStop will carry an exclusive fight stick that mirrors the old-school arcade experience. The Mortal Kombat Klassic Fight Stick is being developed by Performance Designed Products and features a similar button layout as the Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition Fight Stick. The Kombat Klassic also features the arcade cabinet design from the original Mortal Kombat. The Kombat Klassic Fight Stick will come with a download code for the Arcade Kollection.
The stick will retail for $129.99 and is currently available for pre-order.
