Resistance 3 in 2011

The  third installment to Sony’s flagship shooter is officially announced.

The game was announced yesterday during Sony’s Gamescom conference. Ted Price, Insomniac Games’ CEO, revealed the title. A live-action trailer was shown at the event.

Resistance 3 will launch on the PS3 sometime in 2011.

The PS3 exclusive is a follow-up to 2008’s Resistance 2. According to Insomniac, it’s being developed by their Burbank, California studio.

In their newsletter, Insomniac said:

Since the release of Resistance 2, we’ve listened to your feedback to help fine-tune what we know will become a respected addition to the franchise. Our Burbank studio has done a phenomenal job of crafting a cruel and brutal Resistance 3 world.

The Trailer

The live-action trailer begins with a man chasing after a train among fields and barren land. A cover of Bob Dylan’s  “Masters of War” by The Staple Singers accompanies the scene.

He manages to hop aboard. Several gritty looking people are aboard the train. One of them lends the man a hand. All the passengers look like they’ve been through hell.

The train continues to travel the open fields. In the background, a Chimera Stalker is seen.

The train passes by several broken down cars and abandoned, destroyed buildings as it makes its way through a town. Blood streaks the pavement in the town. A billboard for New York stands among some wreckage.

Before they enter a tunnel, a view of the St. Louis Gateway Arch appears, standing tall in the background.

They enter the tunnel. Emergency sirens wail, and the train screeches to a halt.

The passengers load up their weapons. A Chimera screams in the darkness. One attacks the passengers. An intense shootout erupts between the passengers and dozens of chimera as the trailer ends.

Nathan Hale, the protagonist in the first two games, is absent from the trailer.

The game is possibly taking place in locations around the Midwest and New York. Currently, not much else is known. An official release date hasn’t been set.

According to their Twitter, Insomniac will reveal more details about Resistance 3 later this week.
