Insomniac Partners with EA for Multiplatform Game
Insomniac Games enters a partnership with EA that will have an upcoming game going multiplatform.
Yesterday, the company announced they will be teaming with EA Partners to release a game for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The game will be the first multiplatform title developed in Insomniac’s 16-year history. According to EA, Insomniac’sBurbank studio is developing the game.
In an official statement, Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac, said:
Today, we’re excited to announce that we have created a brand new universe and franchise for you to experience in the coming years. As we develop it, one of our goals is to provide an awesome experience for as many players as possible.
In an interview with Joystiq, Price confirmed the partnership will be for a single game. Currently there are no plans for more than one game. A name for the project or tentative release date has not been released.
Price also stated the reasons why Insomniac chose to work with EA:
I think at the core, we have the same values when it comes to our creative approach to creating games and to quality over quantity. And, from a more technical perspective, EA as a publisher — EA Partners — has an amazing global reach. And being a multiplatform publisher, that’s a great combination for us since we’re looking to go multiplatform. But more than that, they also work with the best independent developers in the world who, incidentally, own their intellectual property. And for us, that was another very attractive aspect of working with EAP.
According to Price, Insomniac will own the IP rights to the new game. He stated the new partnership will not affect any of Insomniac’s current projects or series.
He also confirmed that Sony owns the Resistance and Ratchet & Clank series, so they won’t appearing on other systems.
Other changes will have future Insomniac games in extended development cycles which ensures quality, said Price.
Insomniac has developed games exclusively for the Sony brand for the past 16 years. Playstation fans concerned about the announcement and Insomniac’s relationship with Sony have nothing to worry about, said Price.
We know many of you are extremely loyal to the PlayStation family, and especially to Resistance and Ratchet & Clank. We are too. Our relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment is still very strong, and continues as we develop additional projects exclusively for PlayStation 3 – projects that will take full advantage of our additional development time.
