Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack Releases
Last week, a new map pack for Modern Warfare 2 released, called the “Stimulus Package”. The pack costs 1200 Microsoft points, or 15 dollars. For the time being, it’s exclusive to the Xbox 360.
For 1/4th the cost of the complete game, you can buy a whopping five multiplayer maps. Yep, count ’em up. Five maps. By the way, two of them we’ve already played back in Call of Duty 4. So that basically leaves three new maps. For 15 dollars. That’s five dollars for each new map.
Infinity Ward claims this new pack will cure “Mapathy”, a “state of indifference to the same old maps.” Like they’re doing gamers a favor by releasing the pack, then charging $15 for it. Seeing as how Activision just can’t help themselves from overpricing every single one of their products, I’m not surprised by the cost. My contempt for Infinity Ward and even more so Activision grows every day.
It seems like companies are getting bolder and bolder when it comes to pricing downloadable content. An online map pack shouldn’t cost 1/4th of the game’s price. The way things are going I wouldn’t be surprised if we soon see map packs going for 20 bucks.

I’m definitely not suffering from “Mapathy”. However, I am suffering from a state of indifference to the same old tired problems in Modern Warfare 2. The same cheaters, glitches, horrible match making, constant patches, boring maps, and awful community. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played an objective based game where people were more concerned with launching a nuke rather than actually completing the objective.
Where’s my Stimulus Package for all those problems? Instead, we get an overpriced map pack.
According to Activision, in 24 hours after release the Stimulus Package was downloaded over a million times. In a week it’s been downloaded over 2.5 million times. That’s about $37.5 million in their pockets. Lemme repeat that: $37.5 million. That’s a hell of a Stimulus Package for Activision.
